The 6th Asia-Pacific Conference on Public Health

The 6th APCPH was successfully held from the 22nd to 25th July 2019 at the Equatorial Hotel in Penang. The theme of the conference was “Urbanisation Challenges for Health”. The conference was jointly organised by the College of Public Health Medicine (CPHM), Malaysian Armed Forces Health Services and Penang State Health Department. Professor Dr Victor Hoe the council member of CPHM and Dr Marina Kamaruddin from the Penang State Health Department were the chairperson for the 6th APCPH.

There were six pre-conference workshops, one keynote address, two plenaries, three forums, 12 symposium sessions, 76 free-oral paper presentations, 205 free-poster presentations and 14 exhibition booths. The conference attracted more than 1,000 participants from Malaysia and around the regions. The event was officiated by the Chief Minister of Penang YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow. The Keynote Address on ‘Urbanisation Challenges for Health’ was delivered by Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Bin Abdullah, the Director General of Health Malaysia.

The title of the two plenaries were “Taking AIDS Out of Isolation Through Dynamism of Urbanisation” delivered by Mr Eamonn Murphy, the Director, UNAIDS Regional Support Team for Asia and the Pacific and “Urban Crisis: Preventions, Readiness and Preparedness” delivered by Lt. Gen. Dato’ Pahlawan (Dr) Md Amin Muslan, the Director General of the Malaysian Armed Forces Health Services. The aim of the 6th APCPH is to promote sharing and exchange of ideas and to achieve this, it included three forum discussing ideas on solving the issue of urbanisation. The forums were Governance, Built Environment and Urban Health; Socio Economic Development and Urban Health; and Population Right is Human Right: in NCD Perspective.
